Professional Life
Psychotherapist, Mentor, and Art & Creative Therapist.
My name is Lori Fitzgerald and I am a Psychotherapist, Mentor, Artist, Writer, and Creative Therapist living in the North of England but supporting clients throughout Europe.
I didn’t follow the conventional path into coaching and counselling. I’m not a particularly conventional type of person really so it was always unlikely that I would be a conventional therapist.
Instead, I began with masters level training in clinical psychology and then a further post grad in art therapy. While studying in London, I also worked in various creative fields including architecture, public relations, fashion styling, & catwalk project management, while also volunteering as a counsellor for individuals facing HIV diagnoses.
In 1999, I returned to Leeds as a fresh faced post-grad and worked with charities supporting homeless youth and women with alcohol dependency. By 2006, while completing my design degree, I founded the UK's first maternity trauma support group outside London, offering crucial support to women and their partners. I then worked for the NHS as an assistant in the early pregnancy and antenatal units, as a senior level project manager in maternity service development, and as an end of life support worker (joint NHS and Macmillan).
In 2011 after completing postgraduate studies and further professional development in personal coaching, sex and relationship therapy, domestic violence advocacy, and mindfulness, I launched a transformative integrated therapeutic and mentoring practice, now known at The Therapy Den.
The pandemic in 2020/21 led me to expand my practice online and specialise in neurodiversity support, which coincided with my own diagnosis of Autism. I’m committed to the support of any adult who is seeking to understand and be supported within their unique diversity. But my personal and professional experiences have deepened my practice, enabling me to support both neurodivergent and neurotypical clients with even greater empathy and understanding.
Between 2021 and 2024 I have studied post-grad modules in Jungian Psychology, Advanced Jungian Practice, and Jungian Creative Theory.
Then in late 2024 I completed 20,000+ hours of one to one client contact and became a counselling ‘fellow’ within my field of work.
I love my job and my aim is that you, as a client, will benefit fully from my breadth of care & knowledge.
